Why Beyond the Scale?
Most people know what they "should" be doing.
The challenge isn't knowledge.
The challenge is turning good intentions into consistent actions that fit into everyday life.
Our weight is driven by biology, hormones, history, and a dozen things diet culture never tells you about. Once you understand what's actually going on and get the right support, everything changes - and it gets a lot more doable.
As a Nutritional Therapist specialising in weight management, obesity care, and behaviour change, I help clients bridge the gap between knowing and doing.
How I can support you
Understand what's happening in your body.
Before any changes, we look at the full picture - your health, your history, your habits, the patterns that keep tripping you up. No assumptions, no judgment. Just clarity about why things have been hard.
We build something that fits your actual life.
Not a meal plan you'll abandon by Wednesday. Realistic, flexible changes around how you actually live, eat, work, and feel - so progress sticks instead of slipping away.
We focus on more than the number.
Energy, hunger, cravings, how your clothes fit, how you feel in your own body. The scale is one signal, not the whole story - and chasing it alone is exactly what's burned you out before.
What can change for you?
⭐️ Food stops running the show. Eating starts to feel calmer and more normal instead of like a daily battle you keep losing.
⭐️ You feel better in your body, often before the scale moves. More energy. Steadier hunger. Better sleep. Fewer cravings drag you down.
⭐️ You finally understand your own patterns. Instead of guessing and blaming yourself, you'll know why things have been hard and what actually works for you.
⭐️ Progress that doesn't unravel. We build changes that hold up when life gets busy, stressful, or messy - because that's real life, and it's where every plan before this fell apart.
⭐️ You stop carrying it alone. Someone in your corner who gets it, who you can be honest with, who adjusts things with you when life gets in the way.

Nikki Coughlan
Registered Nutritional Therapist & Health Coach (DipNT, mNTOI, SCOPE Certified) Specialising in Obesity & Health Behaviour Change
I'm Nikki - a Registered Nutritional Therapist specialised in weight & obesity care, and I've supported over 600 people who'd been let down by diets that never lasted.
Here's something the diet culture gets wrong: health and weight aren't the same thing. You can be working on your energy, your bloods, your sleep, your relationship with food and your own body - and feel better in real, measurable ways - whatever the scale is doing.
So that's where we start. Not with a weight you "should" be, but with how you actually want to feel and what healthy looks like for you. Weight loss often follows when the rest of it is supported properly - but it's never the only thing that matters here, and it's never the price of being treated with respect.
I work from evidence, not trends, and I understand both the science of why this is hard and how draining it is to keep trying. You can expect grounded, compassionate support that won't make you feel like a problem to be fixed.
Still reading? That's usually a sign.
Most people who make it this far are ready to do this properly - they just need a low-pressure place to start.
A free 15-minute check-in costs you nothing and commits you to nothing. It's simply a conversation to see whether working together makes sense for where you are right now.
Frequently Asked Questions

Nutritional therapy is an evidence-based, functional approach to health, which means instead of just managing symptoms, we look for what's driving them in the first place.
Take weight. Conventional advice stops at "eat less, move more." A functional, root-cause approach asks why it's been so hard: what's happening with your hunger and cravings, your hormones, your sleep, your stress, your digestion, your energy, your relationship with food. These systems are connected, and when one is off, it pulls the others with it. Treat the surface only and the problem keeps coming back - which is exactly what you've probably experienced.
So we don't start with a diet. We start by understanding your body and your history as a whole, then use food and realistic lifestyle changes to support the systems underneath. Personalised to you, because no two people get here the same way.
As a Registered Nutritional Therapist, I work from clinical evidence and within a clear scope of practice. I'm not here to diagnose or replace your GP - I work alongside the rest of your care, focused on the practical, day-to-day support that's so often the missing piece.
-
Once you book, you'll get an email, including a detailed form to fill in beforehand so I have a feel for where you're at before we meet. Sessions are on Zoom, and you'll receive a written summary and plan after each one. If you go on to ongoing support, the sessions are spaced flexibly over the next 6–8 weeks - at a pace that fits your real life, not a rigid programme.
-
No. This support does not replace medical care.
I do not prescribe medication or provide medical advice. The work focuses on nutrition, behaviour, habits, and mindset alongside your existing medical care.
If medical concerns arise, I’ll always encourage you to discuss these with your prescribing clinician.
-
Then you're in exactly the right place. Most of the people I work with come to me feeling that way. It usually isn't that you've failed - it's that you've never had support that accounts for how genuinely complex this is.
-
No. There's no meal plan to follow, no foods that are off-limits, and nothing to "fail" at. We build realistic changes around your actual life - because rigid plans are exactly what hasn't worked before.
-
Yes - and honestly, this is a big part of what I do. Nutrition matters, but for most people, the bigger shifts happen in the headspace around eating: rebuilding a balanced relationship with food after years of dieting, navigating social situations and eating out, working through cravings and emotional eating patterns, and figuring out what eating "normally" even looks like. We work on both, because in real life, they're not separate things.
-
Not at all. Wherever you're starting from is a perfectly good starting point. This is about supporting your health and your goals, not qualifying for help based on a number.
-
Yes. If you're on a GLP-1, you'll find dedicated support over on The GLP-1 Coach — built specifically around how these medications affect appetite, nutrition, and muscle. If you'd rather start here, that's fine too; we'll simply focus the support around where you are.

If you're with Irish Life Health, you may be able to claim a contribution towards a session on selected plans, since I'm a registered member of the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI). Worth checking your specific plan to confirm what's included. VHI and Laya don't typically cover nutritional therapy at the moment, though policies do change, so it's always worth a quick check with your insurer. Receipts are provided for every session.

That's completely welcome here. Plenty of people come for better energy, steadier eating, a calmer relationship with food, or simply to feel healthier - without weight loss being the goal. We work towards what matters to you. Your health is worth supporting whatever the scale is doing, and you'll never be pushed toward a goal you didn't choose.
