About Me

Supporting You Beyond the Prescription

My name is Nikki Coughlan. I'm a registered Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach, and I specialise in supporting people who are using GLP-1 medications.

Before setting up The GLP-1 Coach, I spent years as a Health Coaching Team and Strategy Lead within a national digital obesity service in Ireland - working alongside multidisciplinary medical teams and supporting hundreds of people through one of the most complex and misunderstood health conditions there is.

What that experience gave me, more than anything, was a deep understanding of how weight actually works. Not just the biology - though that matters enormously - but the psychology, the history, the shame, the patterns, and the lived experience that most clinical appointments don't have time to explore.

Weight is never just about food. It's shaped by appetite regulation, stress, identity, environment, and years of messages about what your body should look like and what it says about you as a person. I've seen that up close, in hundreds of conversations, and it's shaped everything about how I work.

Why I specialise in GLP-1 support

GLP-1 medications are genuinely changing what's possible in obesity care. For many people, they reduce appetite in a way that finally feels manageable - after years of trying everything else.

But appetite suppression alone doesn't answer the questions that actually determine whether this time is different.

How do you eat well when you're barely hungry? How do you protect your muscle as the weight comes off? What's behind the fatigue, the hair loss, the constipation? What happens when progress slows, or the dose changes, or you decide to stop? And underneath all of that - what needs to shift in how you think about food and your body, so that the changes you make actually last?

These are the questions I help people answer. Not with rigid protocols or generic advice, but with personalised, evidence-informed support that meets you where you actually are.

My approach

My work sits at the intersection of nutritional science, behaviour change, and genuine human understanding. I'm trained in trauma-informed coaching, which shapes not just what I do but how I show up - with a focus on safety, choice, and collaboration rather than prescription and pressure.

In practice, that means I won't give you a meal plan and tell you to follow it. I'll help you understand what your body needs and why, work through the patterns and habits that have been difficult to shift, and build something that feels sustainable rather than something you're white-knuckling your way through.

This isn't about perfection. It's about building steady, informed habits that support your body now - and long after the medication changes.
