Frequently Asked Questions
-
Anyone on a GLP-1 medication - Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or any of the others - who wants specialist support around the nutrition, lifestyle, and behavioural side of these medications.
Some people book proactively to set things up well from the start. Others reach out months in, when something has shifted - appetite changes, progress slows, side effects become harder to manage, or maintenance starts to feel daunting. Support is appropriate at any stage.
-
Most people come to me with a mix of things going on. Common areas we work through together: building a nutrition approach that protects muscle, energy, and long-term health; hitting realistic protein and fibre targets when appetite is low; managing side effects like nausea, fatigue, constipation, and reflux; navigating plateaus; preparing to come off the medication or maintain weight long-term while staying on it; and the emotional and behavioural side of rapid change - cravings, food relationship, eating patterns, and the headspace shifts that often come with it.
-
As a registered Nutritional Therapist (NTOI), my role is to support the nutrition, lifestyle, and behavioural side of your GLP-1 journey. That means helping you eat in a way that protects your muscle, energy, and long-term health, working through side effects with practical tools, and supporting the habits and headspace shifts that make this sustainable. I don't prescribe, adjust, or advise on your medication - that stays with your prescribing clinician - and I don't diagnose or treat medical conditions. What I do is work alongside your medical care to make sure the nutrition and lifestyle piece is genuinely supporting you. If anything comes up that needs a GP, or specialist input, I'll always say so.
-
Once you book, you'll get an email, including a short form to fill in beforehand so I have a feel for where you're at before we meet. Sessions are on Zoom, and you'll receive a written summary and plan after each one. If you go on to ongoing support, the sessions are spaced flexibly over the next 6–8 weeks - at a pace that fits your real life, not a rigid programme.
-
The GLP-1 Support Session is a one-off 60-minute session designed to give you direction. We look at where you are in your journey, what may need adjusting, and what to do next. Many people use it as a standalone session.
The Ongoing Support Bundle is the natural next step if you want to keep going - three follow-up sessions over 6–8 weeks to refine the plan, work through what comes up, and build habits that last. If you're unsure where to start, the GLP-1 Support Session is almost always the right first step.
-
No. This support does not replace medical care.
I do not prescribe medication or provide medical advice. The work focuses on nutrition, behaviour, habits, and mindset alongside your existing medical care.
If medical concerns arise, I’ll always encourage you to discuss these with your prescribing clinician.
-
Not in a strict or rigid way. You can get GLP‑1-specific nutrition guidance, protein goals, digestion tips, and recipe ideas - but no calorie counting or meal plans that don’t fit your life.
-
Yes! Many people experience nausea, fatigue, constipation or digestion issues. I can support you with tools and strategies to help reduce and manage these - so you can stay on your medication and feel better.
-
Yes - and honestly, this is a big part of what I do. The food piece matters, but for most people on a GLP-1, the bigger shifts happen in the headspace around eating: rebuilding a balanced relationship with food after years of dieting, navigating social situations and eating out, working through cravings and emotional eating patterns, and figuring out what eating "normally" even looks like when your appetite has changed so much. We work on both, because in real life, they're not separate things.
-
Absolutely.
Many people reach out months into their journey when things shift - appetite changes, progress slows, or confidence wobbles. Support is appropriate at any stage.

If you're with Irish Life Health, you may be able to claim a contribution towards a session on selected plans, since I'm a registered member of the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI). Worth checking your specific plan to confirm what's included. VHI and Laya don't typically cover nutritional therapy at the moment, though policies do change, so it's always worth a quick check with your insurer. Receipts are provided for every session.

About me
I'm Nikki Coughlan, a registered Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach specialising in GLP-1 supported weight management, behaviour change, and obesity care.
I've worked with over 600 clients across clinical and private settings - including alongside multidisciplinary medical teams - and I've spent more than 8,000 hours supporting people through exactly what you're navigating right now.
What I've learned in that time is that the medication works best when it's supported by personalised care, genuine understanding, and a space where you can be completely honest about how you're really doing.
That's what I offer every person I work with.
